Hi, my name is Joel. I’m originally from Sydney and have recently moved to the beautiful island state of Tasmania.
I’m drawn to the play-based counselling approach in my work with children because it embodies the qualities I believe in. I believe that play-based counselling is especially powerful for children who may not have the words to describe their feelings or the challenges they may have faced. Through play, children can express themselves and work through traumatic experiences in a way that feels safer and less intense. My passion for helping others aligns perfectly with this approach, and I believe in the importance of addressing difficult emotions through stories and metaphors, which play-based counselling provides.
In my spare time, I’m a hobbyist who enjoys a wide range of activities, from rock climbing and jiu-jitsu to cooking for my family and attempting to draw. I’m currently pursuing a degree in social work with the dream of one day opening my own practice, where I can offer play-based counselling for people of all ages. My number one goal is to help my clients feel less alone in their struggles, no matter what they may be.
