We know this journey can feel overwhelming for some, so we have compiled our most frequently asked questions for you to read to give more clarity. We are happy to accept a call or emails to discuss anything that you may be unsure about; calls that extend beyond 15 minutes need to be booked with a therapist for a consultation.
Weekly sessions have been identified throughout research as the most beneficial for children. Depending on the child, multiple sessions a week could be considered for a more intensive approach to therapy. Fortnightly sessions can be considered, but it is important to understand this will mean the progress we may see in therapy will generally be slower.
Absolutely. Sibling or peer therapeutic sessions can have a lot of value depending on the children involved; we can facilitate this as a group therapy session. Research shows these group sessions have a much higher impact if followed up weekly or fortnightly by an individual therapy session also.
Most of our referrals are for children 3-12 years of age; but we can offer adolescent and parent counselling/supports also. In addition to that, we consider the child’s developmental age and what they need to engage in therapy spaces.
Our sessions range from $156.16- $193.99 per session (including GST). The rates we charge per service are determined by the qualifications of the therapist.
You can find more about our fee schedule in our handbook or when you are sent out fee consent form outlining our services.
We reserve some sessions weekly for families experiencing financial hardship, are unable to pay this rate per session or for those in crisis. If this is you or a family you know, please contact us directly to discuss options around this.
An invoice will be sent to you after your session is completed. We ask you pay the invoice within 1-3 business days; payment details are located at the bottom of the invoice.
For those who receive funding from an agency or NDIS; those agencies will be sent your invoice for payment. We ask those families who are self-managed NDIS participants to ensure payment is made prior to your child’s next session or you may be asked to pay on the day and receive reimbursement for services to you directly.
If your child cannot make a therapy session you would still be required to pay 90% of the fee if it is within 48 hours of the session. You will receive an autogenerated reminder via email or text within 48 hours of your session for you to confirm attendance.
If you can provide more than 48 hours’ notice that your child will be absent for a scheduled session, would not charge a fee for this.
If the therapist needs to reschedule your appointment, no charges would be made.
Yes, you can leave, however we recommend having a few sessions first to ensure the child is comfortable and does not need sessions to end early. All parent contact information must be up to date and any medical conditions need to be disclosed and medical plans to be provided prior to therapy commencing for the child’s safety.
1-hour session (45-minute therapy session and a built-in 15 minutes to allow for transition in and out of playroom). Shorter sessions may be available depending on the age or needs of the child and can be discussed during your initial consultation session.
If a session ends early due to a child not settling into the playroom or because a child is dysregulated and not coping with the context, we still generally require payment for the hour session you have booked with us.
In some circumstances the therapist may waive the full fee; this will be discussed with you at the end of the session or followed up with you by our accounts team. If this becomes an ongoing struggle, we may suggest shorter sessions (20-30 minutes) and then build up to a full session.
We do whatever we can to create a space your child feels safe; this may mean you stay in the room for some of the session to begin with- particularly if your child is 2-4 years of age.
In addition to this, we do not believe in physically holding a child in the room or space if they do not wish to be there and do not feel safe. They can return to you in the waiting area at any time they need for security. As they adjust to the setting and relationship is established, we will notice this decrease.
This is difficult to determine as our sessions with children are primarily nondirective and the child will work through their struggles or express their needs in their own time. The rate and duration can vary significantly based on the individual child's circumstances, the nature of their issues, and the therapeutic environment. Research suggests that play, art or child counselling/therapy is typically around twenty sessions. However, we know that some children have different brains or if they may be living in crisis therapy may be ongoing.
Typically, a parent/guardian consultation is planned with child’s therapist every 6 weeks. However, these can be less or more regularly had depending on the child and the parent’s request- these can be had via phone or in person. We encourage parents/guardians not to ask questions about your child’s session in front of them or ask leading questions post-therapy. We want to protect their confidentiality, sense of self and allow them (and yourself as a parent) to trust the process. We want to avoid the child potentially dreading therapy because they feel compelled to respond in a certain way afterwards or worried about what they say in therapy.
We will be in contact within 48 hours of a referral submission to let you know if we have a space for your child.
Referrals can be made using the ‘referrals’ button on the homepage. We accept referrals from agencies and organisations on behalf of a family. A self-referral can also be made by completing the form with your own information and submitting for your own child.
Yes, there is free and accessible parking onsite.
We believe that every child should have access to early childhood support and be given opportunities wherever possible to be provided these services. For this reason, we reserve bookings to provide vulnerable families & children with play as a therapeutic intervention at a reduced rate. Please contact us directly if you need this support and we will do my best to offer your family regular sessions as spaces become available.
We ask that if your child is unwell, they stay home until they are feeling better or no longer contagious. Our general rule of thumb is that if they are too unwell for school or care, it is best to keep them home from therapy also. We do our best to ensure the health and wellbeing of all who use our playrooms throughout the day and the health of our therapists.
If you find your child has a virus or is unwell after a session with us during the week, please let us know ASAP so we can appropriately disinfect and clean the space for others to minimise the spread of any infection.
Although you may still receive a charge for missing a session, we suggest asking your therapist to reschedule to later in the week if possible or a telehealth booking. Alternatively, we can use the time your child would be in the session to update their notes, plans or complete advocacy work on their behalf with your consent.
We charge a 50% fee for your session if it extends beyond a two-week period. We charge for more than two weeks absence so that we can still manage to operate as a business without these bookings across that period.
Some families may wish to miss some sessions during school holidays or their child needing a break from therapies. Where possible, we recommend you are as consistent as possible; however, we do know that sometimes children need planned breaks and will work with you on this.
